Crazy New World

So this book is very very odd. The whole open sexuality thing is just shocking! Little kids( like 4 and up) running around naked doing innapproiate things in bushes is absolutly insane. When this book was written these things were no where what life was like nor what it is like now and hopefully will never be. For someone to write this book in the 30's (I think that it was when it was written) they must have had some strange thoughts about the future. The author would have been deeply looked down upon when people read it for thinking of all these strange ways of having children and then they way the children were raised. The imagination of the author must have been huge to think of all those names for birthing stuff, the teaching stuff, and the games. It would have been and still is a shocking novel at any time in the history of the world.

houston we have a problem

Well my parents like me to be in bed at a decent time ,10 at the latest on a school night usually. This is creating a huge problem. Only like 3 people have blogged( not including myself) and I have already commented twice on Emilee's so i still only have 4 comments and I have to go to bed or risk some serious consequences , well I don't really think they would do anything other than be a little upset with me, but I still don't know what to do. I guess I will just come in with four comments and then go home and do the other or maybe Mrs.Paradise will just be ultra kind and realize what procrastinators we have in AP English and not care too much. I am hoping on the second of the two!!

The Green Knight

So this book was kind of confusing and definitely had the whole small world kind of theme but this has nothing to do with any of those questions so onto those
1. I don't really think that Gawain is a super-human hero person. He states that he is the weakest and the "feeblest of wit" and that it would be less of a loss if he died not King Arthur. These are some of his flaws along with the whole covenant with the lord not give him everything he gets and he doesn't give him the green girdle and keeps it so that he doesn't die because he he does not have immortal powers.
2.I think the Green Knight is a very strange character. He lets his own head get cut off but then does not cut of Gawain's, so he does have a good side because he lets him go with just a slight cut on his neck. I think he symbolizes almost a internal struggle along with a coming out of sorts with the narrative/Gawain, like the Knight helps Gawain get over his fears/ not believing in himself. The Knight is also a a struggle that everyone has to deal with on who is going to battle him and such
3. I was unsure of what some of the symbolism of the color green were so I went and looked some up. Well I knew of envy and jealousy, but I found that it can also help with battling nervousness and anxiety. This could be kind of what it has to do with in the novel, because the green girdle makes Gawain less nervous and he has less anxiety of going to fight and when the Knight comes the first time Gawain gets over his fear and just goes and secures the covenant with the Knight. The symbolism of New Year's Day could be like starting over or the beginning of something new. I am not as sure on the New Year's Day symbolism as much as of the color green.

Well now that I have answered all the questions I guess I am done. Does anyone know if those study guides are due tomorrow or not?

God Lovin-Alcoholics!!

Well they weren't actually God-lovin that was added in translation, but they were all definitely alcoholics. They were always talking about drinking in the mead-hall and having beer-fests. This must have been a big like traditionish ideal with for them. I know this doesn't relate to any of those discussion questions ( I think I don't have them for reference) but this was like the most predominate thing in the book for me. I half enjoyed the book. I really only understood it when something big was happening, like Beowulf's battles with Grendel and such. Going back and doing the study guide was really helpful though because I basically went back and reread the whole book, and I know Mrs. Paradise kinda disapproves of Sparknotes but the ones for Beowulf were SUPER helpful, just a little fyi.

Last Book

Well I haven't quite finished my last book ( I have about 20 more pages that I will read tonite) but I will blog about it now. My last book was Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck. So far it is okay. There are not many exciting events going on. The book is very descriptive and the use of imagery is strong. I think I am going to write my paper on how well you can picture everything because of the wording in the book.

a new kind of reading

I am reading my play right now, which is Our Town by Thornton Wilder, and I really like the way plays are written. They are very easy to follow along with because they like give you the scene and how it is set up then they give you the dialouge without all the added wording. I am not far into the play yet so I don't really know what is going to happen or the main plot of it or if there even is one.
