One down 3 to go

I finished my first book... like two weeks ago and I am just now blogging about it. I am an over achiever!!! Well I read Good-Bye, Mr. Chips and it was an alright book. It read really fast which was a plus, but some parts of it were very boring... At the beginning it goes backward in time then in the middle it starts going forwards in time again so it gets a little confusing. The annoying part about it though is that the main character Mr. Chips' dialogue is bursting at the seems with "um's", "er's" and "umph's". It also has a ton of dashes in it to show pauses. This is a short passage from the book so you can see what I am talking about, " You know-umph-Linford-you'll like Brookfield-when you get used to it.It's not half such an awful place-as you imagine. You're a bit afraid of it-um,yes-eh? So was I,my dear boy- at first. But that was- um- a long time ago. Sixty-three years ago-umph- to be precise. When I- um- first went into the Big Hall and - um- I saw all those boys- I tell you- I was quite scared. Indeed- umph-I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life." (116-117) So yea that's how all the dialogue is and it is really annoying after about the first chapter. I have started my second book which is Tess of the D'Ubervilles. It is a bit long and written in older writing forms so it is kind of hard to understand but so far I have got a good grip on it.

I don't know how you can stand to read that whole book. Just that passage you included drove me nuts. It must have been really annoying to have to type all those dashes out. Anyway, congrats on enjoying your book and I hope you're having a good summer.

Soo, I did not even finish reading that little excerpt because it got on my nerves. I am happy that my books have not been like that. Congrats on not getting too frustrated with it.

Sarah, I just thought of this, but you really should be ok with the latin because of Spanish. Spanish comes from Latin, and you know how well our Spanish education has gone so far. :)

Well, after reading the passage you posted from the book, I am not planning of ever reading that, because it seems mucho annoying-o!!! Oh, and your blog is pretty, mine is really boring!

Well to be positive, at least the book read fast because I probably would have ripped the book in a million pieces if I would have had to read a dialogue like that. Hope your other books are better!
